Food and wine tours and courses to sample local wine, oil and food
Borgo Sant’Ambrogio offers its guests the opportunity to attend courses which involve sampling the typical wines, oils and foods of the region.
Our estate is located on a wine route known as the “Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano”, an itinerary which is not solely geographic but also ideal, and which offers visitors a multi-sensory experience unique in the world. In addition to the architectural and natural wonders of the region, you can also enjoy to the full the flavors and aromas of the Tuscan wine and food tradition.
Wines such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano have no need of introduction. They can either be sampled alone or accompanied by fine local cheeses, like the intensely flavored “pecorino” PDO from the Crete Senesi, or the “cacio” from Pienza, once enjoyed by Pope Pius II (Piccolomini).
In our typical local restaurants and trattorie, you can enjoy the famous Chianina beef, from which we get the renowned “bistecca alla fiorentina”. The particular type of meat, combined with the way it is cut and its preparation, give the “fiorentina” its unmistakable flavor.
Equally linked to local tradition and to native breeds is the Sienese Cinta salami, produced exclusively from the pork of Cinta pigs. The delicious “ragù di caccia” (game sauce), typical of the local area, is often served with “pici”, a type of pasta prepared with the simple, genuine ingredients of popular tradition.
The favorable climate and fertility of the soil give Tuscan extra-virgin olive oil its very distinctive flavor. The Sant’Ambrogio certified organic farm produces about 3000 liters of it a year.
